The Hino 700 Series strikes a balance between quality and cost. For powertrain, it retains the reliable Hino P11C engine available in 380hp and 420hp variants, which is central to Guangqi Hino’s high reliability. The distinctive electrical and pneumatic system designs are also preserved, contributing to vehicle stability. A Foton 12-speed transmission from the leading Chinese heavy-duty truck transmission brand, Fast, is chosen for the gearbox.
This is a 2018 Hino 700 Series 6×4 tractor truck produced by Guangqi Hino, which was launched as a new product in January 2018. Compared to other brands, Guangqi Hino has a high level of recognizability in terms of appearance, with a prominent Hino emblem and the Guangqi Hino nameplate embedded in the gray grille on the front fascia, clearly indicating its status as a joint-venture vehicle.
The cab, engine, electrical system, and pneumatic system retain the previous layout design, maintaining the familiar look and feel. The interior continues Hino’s consistent minimalist style, predominantly in gray tones. Some truck drivers have criticized the relatively small internal space and the narrow sleeper berth, but this issue has been addressed in newer models that offer a wider sleeper berth.
The driver’s seat features air suspension and electric adjustment for enhanced comfort. The steering wheel adopts a classic two-spoke design, complemented by an instrument cluster with black background and white lettering. The dashboard is styled in black and gray, with a simple yet clear arrangement of controls, sufficient for daily use.
Some may consider the interior configuration too modest for a joint-venture vehicle, but the Japanese design philosophy emphasizes simplicity to minimize potential faults.
To better adapt to domestic logistics transportation needs, the vehicle employs a lightweight design, reducing the overall weight to 8.5 tons, with a lowered fifth-wheel height of 1.2 meters. The suspension uses fewer leaf springs—three at the front and four at the rear—to significantly reduce weight and friction between spring leaves. An aluminum fuel tank with a capacity increased to 600 liters reduces the frequency of refueling stops, enhancing transport efficiency.

In terms of chassis construction, a new Hino frame structure has been adopted to promote localization and reduce costs. Despite being a new combination, the vehicle maintains Hino’s advantages of high quality and reliability. The cab layout and wiring remain simple without clutter, with meticulous attention to detail in the electrical and pneumatic systems. Steel storage tanks have been replaced with aluminum ones for additional weight savings.
Equipped with a Fuwa 13T single-stage reduction bridge, the new model offers a choice of rear axle ratios: 3.7 or 4.11. It comes fitted with 12R22.5 radial tires and aluminum rims, further reducing vehicle weight and lowering fuel consumption. Segmental mudguards have been added to improve safety during transit.
As a Sino-Japanese joint-venture heavy truck, Guangqi Hino has accumulated years of market reputation. With some components localized for production in China, the cost of ownership has decreased. In today’s pursuit of efficient logistics transport, Guangqi Hino offers good value for money in terms of efficiency, fuel economy, durability, and reliability.
Chinese perception of Hino trucks can be traced back to the 1990s when imported Hino vehicles impressed users with their capabilities and quality. A veteran user of Hino trucks, who started his freight career with imported Hinomotors and now drives a Guangqi Hino, has over 15 years of experience.According to him, the reliability of Guangqi Hino is virtually indistinguishable from that of imported Hino. His 2009 Guangqi Hino has traveled over 1.2 million kilometers without major repairs, even after enduring “brutal handling” by inexperienced apprentices. This is a true testament to the quality of Guangqi Hino from a user’s perspective.
